Today we worked for the final day script. We mutually
divided our roles. Everyone had to write their own script and we had to help
our friends. We learnt how to make our script independently. Our mentor guided us
constantly. It was very exciting to do it.

The French quote (by Tanay)
Today
we made our group banner for which we have used dry leaves. We thank our friend
Tirth Barot for bringing the dry leaves. We also finished our French
integration. We wrote a French quote which says that the land is not only of humans
it is of plants too which means we need to share the planet with plants and
other living things.
How many people are aware?(By Rishay)
Integration
as a part of our exhibition, we researched about how many people are aware
about their rights. Through research we collected the data and we will present
it in the form of a bar graph.
Table mat for sale!!!!! (By Arnav.S)
Today,
it was fun for taking action as this was a very interesting action as we
created the table mat and now if it is good it can be for sale!!! We are
enjoying this unit a lot as we are taking so much of actions in this unit and
almost all are essential to not only conserve the surroundings but also the
world.

Past, present, future! (by Arnav.S)
Today
we did 3 boxes indicating past, present and future. The past contains a lot of
animals, whereas present contains today’s animals and future contains only one
animal! Today is our fourth mentor meeting and today our target is lessened!
And now creating science lab and arranging the caption is left and then only
rehearsing the script will be left!
Integration! Integration! (By Tanay)
As
integration is part of our exhibition, we integrated with French. So we researched
quotes in French for our respective group. We even researched other things like
how do plants get exploited in France, in which place of France it happens, etc.
We will keep integrating like this as we believe in transdisciplinary learning.

Time for something new (by Arnav.s)
As an IB PYP learner we give equal importance to our mother tongue. Marathi being my mother tongue I wrote one slogan in Marathi for my group. The objective of the slogan is to spread awareness about negative human choices.

Oh! So many plants ( by Tanay)
We had gone to field trip
to Haryali which is located at Thane, Ghodbandar road. There we learnt to plant
saplings in small milk bags. As we say together we can and we will make a
difference so we made a difference by planting 275 saplings. We got some information on vermicomposting
also. And we’re again in the school and continuing our exhibition work. We promise
that we will follow each one, teach one, plant one.

A look towards the old age homes ( by Yash)
Today we visited “Sneha
old age home” located in Mira road. Our objective was to know the human choices
that affect other humans. There were only female senior citizens. After we
interacted we came to know the senior citizens were either abandoned by their husband
or children. At this age they only need our love, support and affection. We
tried our level best to give them happiness. We performed song and skit and
they even danced with us. We would thank Prastuth for arranging this trip
Exciting assessment time ( by Tanay)
Today’s
day was exciting as it was assessment time. But what was exciting? The exciting
thing in that was it was framed by our fellow friends. They had assessed our understanding
on the impact and human choices we make for plants, animals and humans. We used
different activities like:
Ø
frayers
model
Ø
letter
writing
Ø
T-chart
Ø
graffiti
wall
Ø
mind
map
We
enjoyed the formative.

Script-an important stage requirement (By Namya)
We
started writing the script for group presentation on human rights. We
independently worked upon it to ensure that we communicate our findings, our
understanding with others clearly. We to make an informational and interesting script
Action Time!!(By Triesha)
The main trait of a PYP student is to take action. Following
this trait, we (PYP5 students) have conducted a rally to spread awareness about
the negative human choices. We chose our vicinity to spread awareness. We were
enthusiastically chanting the slogans. As we give importance to our National
Language too. So we presented a Nukkad Natak in Hindi. Our objective was to
spread awareness against human discrimination, plant and animal exploitation.
This was a thrilling experience as we faced the live audience. We thank Khan
sir, Santosh bhaiya and his team without them this rally would not be
successful.

Compassionate PETA representatives… (By Arnav.S)
This day was very informative
for us (i.e. the Animal exploitation group).
The members of ‘People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ came to
talk about ways we exploit animals and how can we take action by changing our human
choices. We could connect the research we had done till now as while sharing
even they reinforced that animals are mainly exploited/abused for joy riding,
meat, transport, experiment, clothing. What was interesting was that they gave
examples of practical ways to substitute animal uses/products.

Reflecting and planning (By Triesha)
Today we found the
difference between Arbor Day and Van Mahotsav and to present that we made a
Venn Diagram. The difference is that Arbor Day is celebrated outside India and
Van Mahotsav is Celebrated in India, but they both have the same objective. As
we are going for a field trip to Hariyali, we created a Fieldtrip reflection.
We are still working on our presentation to present the activist.
Fish bone on threats to aquatic animals (By Arnav.S)
Today we listed down the
threats towards aquatic animals by the fish bone activity. Through the fish-bone
we have shown the causes such as pollution, oil spill, ocean acidification, etc
that leads to endangerment of aquatic animals.
The house with plants and the types (By Tanay)
We
learnt to make a model of house in which there are many small plants and trees
to show the future generation and we made it all by ourselves. We learnt the
types of plants exploitation in the concept of form and they are commercial,
subsistence and incidental. We presented this by using our creativity on a
chart.

Young government (By Namya)
On
this day we made a constitutional booklet on human rights. We co-ordinated with
our art sir to make our booklet creatively. We learnt about how to insert our
information in the form of a book. We used our information of human rights and
the attitude of creativity to make the booklet as we had learnt. Then we used
our drawing skills to draw images to give more impact to our information.
Layers of responsibility (By Yash)
We
learnt/concluded from the data we collected and organized that most people make
positive choices. We came to know that most people don’t know the fundamental
rights and they accidentally discriminate and they have to face the
consequences. We found out that people like to do planting, even
underprivileged people like maids do planting but in their village. We learnt
to make layer of responsibility. which has 12 layers. The layers represent the
ways to stop human discrimination.
Our interpretation on choices people make (By Triesha)
We
had conducted a survey interviewing our friends, neighbours, relatives etc on
different choices people make that affect other living beings on the planet. While
doing so, we found that some people were not aware of their rights. Using the
data we collected, we organised it and interpreted it. We concluded from the
data that people make more positive choices which have a good impact.

Designing is interesting (By Prisha)
On this day, we learnt how
to design formatives. It was quite hard but we managed to do it. We reflected
on our research work to design the formative as we had to frame our assessment
based on what we have shared as experts with our peers.
People and books for Plant Conservation (By Triesha)
Today we finalized our book
review. We got pointers while doing the same such as ensuring to name the
author, sharing about what the book is about in brief, etc. We researched about
plant activists and they are Alicia Silverstone, Baba Amte and many more. They all
work for the conservation of our beautiful environment. We almost complete our
Chipko movement model reflecting choices people make.
updates by Arnav p
24 11 16
Today we learnt and
improved our knowledge about
different activists and what we have
done and we have made frames to frame them and we even learnt their contributions.
Making things ready for D-day (By Yash)
Today
we communicated and got many ideas as we had to write our script for the
presentation. While writing, we ensured that the meaning of discrimination,
i.e. ‘unfair or unjust’ treatment, is communicated to other groups. We have
included the factors based on which discrimination happens such as caste, age,
etc and finalized the script. We used our creativity and art skills to make a hut
model through which we will show the effect of class discrimination.
Applying our language skills and Math concepts (By Arnav.S)
Today we finalised our book review by working on the
feedback given. We reviewed it to make sure it has a brief summary about the
book we read. It was quite fun to use the Jodo blocks to make a 3D shaped model
for showing interdependence of choices made by people on other living beings.
We co-operated with each other well as the model required work to be done from
all angles.

New Findings and Learning Time (By Triesha)
The Plant Extinction group shared choices that people
make which lead to extinction of plants. Some such choices are due to commercial
purposes, incidental, etc. leading to pollution, loss of habitat, more of carbon
dioxide, etc. I could connect this to plant conservation as the effects of
plant extinction are the reason for which we need to start conserving plants.
Today we also thought of ways to assess our
friends’ understanding on plant conservation and learnt the pointers to be kept
in mind while making one that is to assess on the concept/understanding. We have designed a formative using open-ended
strategy and selected response strategy.
Essential learnings of the day (By Arnav.S)
Just
like humans, even animals need a particular kind of environment to live. This place
of living of animals is called animal habitat. If we conserve plants, we
conserve animal habitat and in turn we protect the animals.
Today
we got feedback on our blog and learnt an important thing that while writing
our blogs, we need to write more about what we learnt than what we did. This
will help us show our progress in learning as well as our skills developed.
Practice for the best
Today we learnt how to present our research on
our choices and its impact to the groups confidently. We need to ensure that our presentation has all the key points of our research and understanding. We could connect it
with the human discrimination group because human rights are made because
discrimination was seen.
updates by Arnav Pilankar
Today I learnt that becoming
an all-rounder is way way more than easy, today balancing between blog and my group quite a tough job. I wonder whether the people
who get balanced learner profile,
are they really balanced? Oh well
but questions will never be answered unless you go to the right person, well I
don’t know who can answer the question literally that was my day, just a lot of
blogging but the rest of my group was making a MCQ formative and I can assure you there are quite a lot of trick
questions and today we even had presentation of plant exploitation which means using plants badly for our advantage
and human rights who encouraged
fighting for human rights and discrimination who shared the impact of discrimination and that’s it.
Fundamental rights for protecting humans (By Yash)
Through
the human rights presentation, my group of human discrimination could connect
that rights are made by the government to protect the well-being of people. We
came to know that the United Nations announced the 11 fundamental rights which
government should give on the 10th December, 1984. Some of the
rights humans are entitled to are: right to education, right against
exploitation, right to justice, right to equality, right to freedom of speech, etc
We
started making formative for others. It was our first time experience and we
understood that we need to keep our objective of assessment in mind while
framing it.

PRESENTATION TIME!!! (By Triesha)
My group plant conservation did
the presentation today on our research and understanding so far. Our
presentation was complimented as we used our creativity to the fullest. We were
quite nervous as we had got confused when Arbor Day is celebrated and what is
the difference between Arbor day and Van Mahotsav. We have realized that we
need to have complete understanding which will help to make us confident.
Reflecting on the pros and cons of our rights (By Namya)
While
observing the presentation of the other three groups- Animal exploitations,
Animal conservation and plant conservation, my group of human rights realized
something. We realized that we, humans, use our rights in such a way that has a
negative impact on other living things. For example, the ‘Right to work’ is exploited
by humans to earn more which in turn negatively affects other living things.
Learning from feedback and experience … (By Arnav.S)
After the presentation of our group, we self-reflected
and have kept a reminder for being more patient and not speak too fast, making
a plan on how and where to stand to use the space properly, use more of IB
lingo to make better connections.
As we had missed our mentor
meeting 2, our mentor Ms. Apeksha Gandhi came for having a look at the progress
and guiding us further. Our mentor gave us some important suggestion of being
caring towards the work we have done of research and display work carefully.updates by Arnav.P
22 11 16
Today was a quite exciting day because it was
“PRESENTATION DAY” the first group was animal
exploitation, they were very well prepared and were clear. I learnt that
animals are exploited in many ways
for cosmetics, religious matters, etc. then there was my own group but I
believe we fumbled a lot and plant
conservation did a good job.and the rest was blogging.
Learning from others (By Yash)
We
came to know how to present our work by observing the other 3 groups’
presentation. We have to keep in mind that we are clear with our content, have
different medias to capture audience’s attention, etc We could connect that it
is humans’ choice that leads to either animal extinction, protects animals or
endangers them. There was a chipko movement that involves hugging tress to avoid
deforestation. We came to know that animals help to increase fertile land, help
to keep balance in ecosystem and much more.

Getting ready to share!! (By Triesha)
Today we reflected on our
work done so far. We sat together and divided our role and consolidated our
understanding before making the script. While making the script we have tried
to keep connecting to our theme ‘Sharing the planet’ which helped us to frame
our dialogues easily. We couldn’t complete it on time so we have learnt that we
need to manage our time well and cooperate completely.
Practise makes a man perfect…(By Arnav.S)
Today
we had butterflies in our stomach because it was the final preparation day for
our first ever presentation of the work we have done till now in exhibition.
While writing our script and practising, we were confident with the points that
we had contributed and researched in detail, but were fumbling with the
explanation of points given by others. We could justify that using meat is a
debatable topic as some people use it for nourishment and need it but others
just for the taste. We could give examples of animals being used for
entertainment such as bull fights, dog fights and many such activities.

Collaborating wih goals and writing a poem (by Tanay)
We collaborated with our mentor today and she gave us
tips for the exhibition like always keep extra things for the last moment,
cooperate with each other, listen to your teachers and the mentors and many
such valuable suggestions. We have started our research on extinct plants using
ICT. We are making a poem on exploitation of plants using English language.

Gearing for the presentation (By Triesha)
It was our second mentor
meeting today and we gave her an update on what all we have accomplished. Our
mentor gave us some feedback which we have to work upon. We prepared our script
as it was our 1st group presentation. We have been told to ensure
that our presentation highlights the meaning of conservation and plant
conservation, how humans conserve plants and effects of plant conservation.
(which are all positive!)

Let's Revise!!!(By Rishay)
Today
as we came to know that some of our group members were unclear with some of the
concepts related to human rights, we decided to revise all the things which we
have researched and clear all our doubts. We also collaboratively shared and
researched on ways are spread awareness, ill effects on the society, etc. and
made a booklet out of it and it all resulted that everyone was clear and we all
had a good understanding!!!

Animals used for want or need? (By Arnav.S)
Today, we investigated more
on endangered animals (especially aquatic) due humans and they are whales, seals,
panda, shark, etc . We found that elephants are captured for their tusks to be
used as artefact or jewellery, crocodiles’ skin is used for bags, belts, etc. Due
to such human wants, animals are abused and endangered.
So many issues!!!(By Rishay)
Today
our group came across plenty of issues related to `human rights’ around the
globe such as religious equality, child rights, gender equality, etc. We collected
newspaper articles related to human rights and made a nice big bulletin board showing
the same!!!
READY…STEADY…SHOOT (By Triesha)
Since we have found out about the effects of conserving
plants, we decided to present the same using the media of motion video. For
making this type of animated video, we needed our cut outs of all our points
ready, then Ms. Latika helped us to click pictures using the tripod stand of
each point after we set the frame and finally we used all the images and transferred
into movie maker. This helped us to enhance our creativity in art and ICT skills.
Impact of plants exploitation ( by Tanay)
We researched the impact of plants
exploitation which is under the concept of causation. For this we used our
research skills and we jotted down the impact on a ladder we made creatively.
Here we learnt that loss of species, soil erosion, loss of habitat, hole in the
ozone layer, E.T.C. are the impacts of plants exploitation.

On the go!!!(By Rishay)
Today was an informative day as we learnt about
the benefits of human rights in the society and the cause of human rights. With
great amount of enthusiasm and curiosity we were successful in making a model
on it. Next, we researched about some new fundamental rights and presented it
through a chart.

Protecting plants has positive effects (By Triesha)
We have reflected on which
choices of ours leads to plant conservation. While sharing our choices with
each other, we concluded that conserving plants leads to:
- Protection of natural beauty
- More of oxygen
- More fresh air
- Retaining soil fertility
- Protecting animal habitat
- More Ayurveda products
- More organic foo
Effects of animal exploitation/abuse/extinction (By Arnav.S)
We critically thought
of the impact of our choices that lead to animal exploitation, abuse or extinction
independently, conducted research on the same using ICT and then consolidated
the research findings in our groups. Some effects of our choices are: depletion
of fossil fuels, food chain is disturbed, no indication of natural calamities,
etc
We all have qualities!!!(by Rishay)
What are the causes of plants exploitation??( By Tanay)
- We researched the cause of plants exploitation [under the concept of causation] by using our research skills and jotted it down on a chart paper creatively. Here we learnt that pollution, increased human population, deforestation, urbanization, forest products like paper, furniture, glue are some causes of plants exploitation.

Planning…executing…moving ahead…(By Prisha)
On this day, we learnt how to plan our
exhibition, which means we planned in our IB planner till stage 5. IB planner
is a document where we plan our unit. On this day, we also made a survey. A
survey related to all the groups: Human, Plants and Animals. We then went home
and asked some people of the survey questions. Our main objective was to know
about others’ choices.
Finding, reflecting, finalizing and learning (By Yash)
RFFL
We found the
choices/grounds/types of discrimination. We learnt to makemodels and search
ideas to make models. We first time made some models in exhibition which were
on the types of discrimination. The most common types of discrimination are –
gender, nationality, class, race, ability and age. We came to know the effects
of discrimination which are always negative. We learned to make six sided
booklet from our fellow group member –Tanisha. We started making script for an
enactment. We after a while came to know we need improvisation in our script.

Reflectively thinking… (By Arnav.S)
We had our first mentor
meeting where we collaboratively have made essential agreements to ensure
smooth functioning of our exhibition journey. While posing our questions, our
mentor guided us to frame open-ended questions that target terrestrial,
aquatic, aerial and all other animals and not restrict our thinking. We even
have presented our perspective by sharing the choices we make that lead to
animal exploitation through Frayer’s model such as making jewellery, hunting,
experimenting on animals, entertainment and many more.
Independent researchers at work…(By Triesha)
We reflected on our choices that help plant conservation
through word splash. Most members in our group choose to reuse and recycle
papers, use cloth bags to avoid land pollution and plant saplings and water
them regularly. Our mentor, Sheetal ma’am guided us how to go about our
exhibition, i.e. ask open-ended questions which will give us more knowledge and
understanding, keep the goal in mind while working for the exhibition, collect
real life examples by reading newspapers to make better connections.
Exercising our voting rights :) :) :) (By Triesha)
We began with our mentor
selection process. All the PYP teacher from PYP 1 to 4 shared their strengths
that can help in our exhibition. We got to observe exemplary communication
skills that we must have during exhibition day. We exercised our voting rights
in school today to vote for the teachers after the introduction was over once
they left. The results of our voting is:

Animal
conservation
Mentor meeting 1
We
discussed with our mentor our theme our central idea and what we have done till
now, then with the mentor we discussed what all we can do to conserve animals
like rally’s, posters, bird feeders and websites. We even discussed our burning
questions and the target to answer these questions in the exhibition.
Mentor mixing and the kick start(By Yash)
It was our first
day with mentor. Our social skills were used to express our thoughts to the
mentor. We asked our burning questions, we made essential agreements that
obviously have to be followed. We got the idea of what we have to work on with
the help of Reshma ma’am, to make it clear we made our blueprint on what should
be done. We discovered true definition of discrimination. This was the day our
expert group started making charts and the real research on discrimination
started.

Ready…Set…Go (By Namya)
This
being the first day of our exhibition’s main journey, we were very excited for it.
Our co-ordinator, miss Pushpalata Ajit motivated and encouraged us before we
started our exhibition class. We made the essential agreements, using the
essential elements of PYP, for our exhibition’s smooth functioning. We also
reflected on our prior knowledge of ‘Choices’ and presented it through the
pre-assessment we collaboratively decided i.e. word splash/word association.
For anything to be successful planning is essential and today we got to know
about the IB planner, which is filled by our teachers but this time for the
exhibition, we are going to fill the same.
Collaborating and Communicating with MYP6 (By Triesha)
As reflecting and
collaborating is an essential part of PYP, we had a special session arranged
with the previous exhibition batch, i.e. students of Grade 6. During the
session, they reflected on their exhibition and we even asked them questions as
we were curious to know about their experience.
They gave us many valuable inputs and
suggestions to make our exhibition a success. Some suggestions that we got are:
to maintain the team-work , be responsible and complete all our work on time , be confident all time, divide
work, understand the content and make your own script. They also shared their
problems and guided us on what we can do to avoid the mistakes they committed from
being repeated. They emphasized the key
to make the exhibition a successful one and a celebratory one is to be ‘co-operative’
with everyone. They have promised us to help if we need any help and have
wished us good luck for the same.

Learning from our dear H.O.S, Ms. Hima Doshi (By Arnav.S)
On this day, we were enthusiastic
to see meet and learn from our H.O.S in our exhibition class. She made groups
like seas, oceans, animals, etc since these were the areas which came up after
we had skimmed through newspapers for issues. We thought they were our final
groups but then we understood that they were our temporary research groups,
whereby we had to investigate about issue specifically to the group we belong.

Attention! Attention! Attention! (by Arnav Sinkar)
As we live in a democratic country we have the right to
vote, thus we used the way of voting to arrive at the theme that we feel
passionate about. The theme ‘Sharing the
planet’ was the theme that most people are sensitive about. Through our
session and browsing the newspapers made us aware that the following issues
need to be addressed for truly sharing our planets with everyone. The issues
that require immediate attention are:
1. Poverty
2. Unequal distribution of resources
3. Inequality
4. Drought
5. Flood
The PYP exhibition carry’s

our initial meeting with the pypc by arnav pilankar
1.
0ur initial exciting meeting with the PYPC Pushpa ma’am had taken place at
the first and sunny Friday of June. We met and every one was curious to know why we had gathered
here we used our thinking skills and
came up with different reasons why we had gathered, then when Pushpa ma’am
inaugurated the meeting and enlightened us why we had gathered here. We were quite enthusiastic to start our journey.
Later we discussed what an exhibition is and is not, an exhibition
a way of presenting our complete learning of PYP Then ma’am explained us the sub skills and the themes
in detail and reflected on the essential elements… heart and soul of PYP sometimes even asked us what the element meant meant, to test our knowledge and what we didn’t know she
gave us research work to find the
meaning of metacognition and dialectical thought which were—
Metacognition—thinking about thinking
Dialectical though-a form of analytical reasoning
